A 24-year-old in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged following a bizarre incident in which the suspect got themselves in trouble when police were in the area for another call.

Around 4:10 p.m. on May 15, police were on Great Northern Road responding to another call when they discovered someone was trying to get into their vehicle.

“Officers removed the person, who was later identified as the accused, from their cruiser and attempted to move them along,” police said in a news release.

“The accused followed officers and raised their fists to fight them. Officers attempted to gain physical control of the accused who pulled away and resisted. They were arrested.”

Charges include resisting police and two counts of assaulting police.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
