SUDBURY -- A 47-year-old Sudbury woman is facing charges after she sped past police on Highway 69 near Burwash.
Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police saw a southbound driver on the highway at 4:45 p.m. Oct. 25 "in the rear-view mirror, travelling at a higher rate of speed than the posted limit which was subsequently confirmed by radar," police said in a news release.
"The vehicle quickly caught up to the officer then accelerated past the cruiser and made a sudden lane change in front of it, causing the officer to take evasive action to avoid a collision."
At that point, police said the vehicle continued to speed, "passing other vehicles and driving erratically."
She was pulled over and officers concluded she had been drinking. However the woman refused to provide a breath sample and she was arrested.
The Sudbury woman is charged with refusing to provide a breath sample, speeding and failing to signal a lane change.
Her driver's license was suspended for 90 days, her vehicle impounded for a week, and she will be in the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 9 in Sudbury to answer to the charges.
The case marks the 55th driver charged with impaired driving in the area in 2020.
