Sudbury Ultimate Dream Home winner hails from South Porcupine

Priscilla St. Jean from South Porcupine likely had a big smile on her face Wednesday afternoon.

St. Jean’s ballot was drawn for the grand prize in the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association 2024 Ultimate Dream Home draw in Sudbury.

She will choose between a new, fully furnished house valued at $948,622 or a cash option of $650,000.

“She has a choice of whether she wants to move into the gorgeous home by BelMar Builders or if she wants to take the cash option,” said executive director Kim Scott.

“Last year’s winners relocated to Sudbury and they took the house and moved into it. So it’s never an easy choice but it’s always a good one.”

Organizers also picked winning tickets for other prizes for thousands of dollars in gift cards from partner retailers.

This is the 23rd year for the Ultimate Dream Home draw. More than 125,000 tickets were sold this year.

“You know, ticket sales once again were outstanding,” Scott said.

“With the costs going up and everything, the support has been overwhelming.”

“We’re finding that people from all over the Province of Ontario now have discovered our little dream home draw that we do up here in northern Ontario,” she added.

“So the support is coming in from everywhere and we’re very appreciative of that.”

All money raised from the ticket sales goes to help those who are hard of hearing in northeastern Ontario, paying for things like hearing aids for those who can’t afford them or providing outreach to underserviced areas.

Scott also confirmed the organization will be doing the draw again next year and tickets will continue to be $20.
