SUDBURY -- Some post-secondary institutions in Greater Sudbury are taking extra precautions as COVID-19 continues to spread worldwide.
Officials at Cambrian College are no longer taking recruitment trips involving international travel.
"That travel is into countries where we have representatives that recruit on our behalf," said Dan Lessard, Cambrian College Communications Manager. "We're just dealing with them through Skype or teleconferencing as opposed to putting people on the ground."
Lessard says the college has also put up posters, reminding students to wash their hands.
They have also been messaging students through the college's intranet service, with a particular focus on the large international student base.
"Surprisingly, I was talking to student leadership saying what are you hearing most from students," Lessard said. "For the most part, students are not concerned."
Meanwhile, Laurentian University has been taking its lead from public health and the Canadian government.
"At this point in time, we're following the travel advisories through the government agency," said Lyne Rivet, Health and Wellness Centre Manager at the university. "We haven't added any restrictions to travel for those who are hoping to return home at this point."
College Boreal has also added some safety precautions, confirming trips have been cancelled with a statement to CTV News.
The college is also advising students to follow the warnings put in place by public health.
Officials add they are dealing with international travel by staff on a case-by-case basis.
