Sudbury police say suspended driver was speeding, had $26K in drugs in the vehicle
A 28-year-old suspended driver was arrested in Chelmsford last week after a failed attempt at fleeing Sudbury police.
The incident took place May 3 on MR35, police said in a news release Tuesday, when police spotted a vehicle with unauthorized plates and tried to pull them over.
“Upon seeing the marked police cruiser, the driver began driving at a high rate of speed Elm Street,” police said.
“Due to the driver’s aggressive driving behaviour, the officer in the marked cruiser did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety.”
However, the suspect continued his high-speed attempt to escape and ended up losing control of the vehicle, hitting a parked car on Ethelbert Street.
“The driver attempted to flee on foot however after a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to take the driver into custody,” police said.
A search of the vehicle uncovered more than 230 grams of cocaine (street value of $23,280), more than 22 grams of crystal meth (street value of $2,230) and more than $800 in cash.
“Officers also located stolen property and a damaged safe that has not yet been linked to any current investigations,” police said.
Charges include trafficking, dangerous driving, two counts of possession of stolen property, failing to stop after an accident, driving while suspended, using a license plate not authorized for the vehicle, failing to comply with a release order and breaching a conditional sentence.
The suspect was in bail court last week.
