Residents are being asked to avoid the area while police are on the scene and roadways will be closed to pedestrians and traffic. Residents wishing to leave the area will be allowed to do so.

Barricades will be set up at the following intersections:

  • Dell Street at Tedman Avenue
  • Melvin Avenue at Edith Street
  • Melvin Avenue at Dell Street

Police also say a 34-year-old man was arrested Friday morning and he is currently in custody.

Just after 3 pm police say that all affected residents have been notified and are those displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Update:

Marc Brunette is a staff sergeant for Greater Sudbury Police Service.

"We have sought the assistance of some of our experts here in Sudbury, Police explosive technicians, and they are coming up with a plan to firstly identify if in fact an explosive device exists, contain the device, and develop a plan or the removal of it and eventually the disposal of it." said Brunette.

The police have set up an emergency command centre at the scene and say they have no idea how long they will be there.
