SUDBURY -- An early morning armed robbery at a New Sudbury gas station has police searching for a suspect.

"Around 5:15 (a.m.) we received a call regarding a robbery after a man entered the gas station, displayed what was believed to be a handgun and demanded cash," Kaitlyn Dunn, corporate communications coordinator for Greater Sudbury Police Service, told CTV News.

It happened at the Esso on the corner of Lasalle Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue Wednesday.

Dunn said the man fled the scene on foot and the employee was not injured in the incident.

"The man is described as being medium build, wearing a black hoody and dark jeans," said Dunn.

The canine unit was brought in to search the area, but the man was not found.

"Officers have cleared the scene and will be reviewing video footage," said Dunn.
