SUDBURY -- A 28-year-old man from Greater Sudbury has been charged with drug trafficking and impaired driving after he was found passed out behind the wheel in a parking lot.
Police were called around 12:30 p.m. Dec. 6 about a man sitting in a running vehicle in a grocery store parking lot on Regent Street.
"Information provided was that the vehicle had been running in the parking lot for two hours and the driver appeared to be asleep in the driver’s seat," police said in a news release Tuesday. "The caller had attempted to wake up the driver by knocking on the window; however, the driver did not appear responsive."
That's how police found him when they arrived a short time later, and after repeated attempts, police managed to wake him up. He was arrested when he showed signs of being impaired and failed a standard sobriety test.
His car was searched, uncovering 150 grams of fentanyl and 85 grams of cocaine, as well as nearly $7,000 in cash. The street value of the drugs is about $60,000, police said.
At police headquarters, the suspect refused to complete part of sobriety tests as directed by a drug recognition expert.
He is now charged with impaired driving, failing to complete the sobriety testing, two counts of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation.
He was released on an undertaking and has a court date of Feb. 3.
