Sudbury pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle in parking lot

A 57-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in a Sudbury parking lot Wednesday afternoon, police say.

Officers were called to the parking lot of a Martindale Road business after the collision involving a passenger vehicle shortly after 1:05 p.m. Jan. 10, Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release.

Emergency crews performed life-saving measures on the female victim when they arrived.

Paramedics took her to hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical professionals.

"The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene," police said.

"Members of our traffic management unit are investigating the collision and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. There are no charges being laid at this time."

The name of the victim is not being released by police out of respect for the family's wishes.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477," police said.
