SUDBURY -- Greater Sudbury mayor Brian Bigger issued a statement on Sunday offering condolences to the families of the residents at Amberwood Suites who have recently lost their battle with COVID-19.
The news of the second death comes just one day after the home lost its first resident to COVID-19.
Health officials declared an outbreak at the home on Jan. 5.
Since then, a total of 35 people – 32 residents, three staff -- at the home have tested positive for COVID.
“I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives to COVID-19,” said bigger in the statement.
“The situation at Amberwood Suites is extremely sad and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected.”
Bigger also confirmed that paramedics are on-site to assist the LTC staff with providing care.
“Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services staff are actively assisting on site to do our best to monitor the situation and provide care,” continued Bigger.
“I would ask that as a community our thoughts and prayers be with the residents, staff and families of Amberwood Suites during this challenging time.”
The mayor concluded the statement with a reminder to take the stay-at-home orders seriously and highlighted how vital they were to reducing community spread.
