SUDBURY -- A Sudbury man faces alcohol and other charges after he was stopped by the West Parry Sound Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police while driving a boat on June 5.
In a news release Tuesday, police said they were patrolling the waters of Georgian Bay in Wallbridge Township, north of Parry Sound, at 8:30 p.m. when officers conducted a vessel check. "After speaking with the operator, officers concluded alcohol had been consumed," the release said. "The operator was arrested and transported to the West Parry Sound OPP detachment where further testing was conducted."
A 34-year-old Sudbury man is facing several charges, including operating a boat while impaired, operating a boat with a blood alcohol level above 80, failure to have proof of competency on board a pleasure craft, and operating a boat underway with open container of liquor.
The man was issued a 90-day driver's licence suspension and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on Aug. 20.
In another incident June 6, the marine unit patrolled Crane Lake in Seguin Township, issuing two three-day driver licence suspensions for alcohol related offences.
