SUDBURY -- A 29-year-old man from Sudbury has been charged with several offences following a collision Nov. 6 in French River.
Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday the collision took place around 6 p.m. on Highway 64, east of Station Road in Alban.
"Investigation revealed the pickup truck failed to negotiate a curve and subsequently struck numerous guardrail posts along with a sign post," police said.
"Immediately after the witness called police, the driver was picked up by a friend and fled the scene. Although the vehicle was demolished, the driver was not injured. Further investigation revealed the driver had consumed alcohol."
The suspect was arrested Nov. 10 and charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop after an accident and failing to remain at the scene.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 16 in Sudbury.
His driver's license was automatically suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days. He is the 59th person charged with impaired driving by the OPP in the area in 2020.
