There was a new donation on the weekend for the Sudbury hospice.

The local Lions Club presented Maison McCulloch Hospice with a cheque for $25,000 Sunday to go toward the planned expansion of the facility.

Gerry Lougheed Jr. is the Past Chair of the hospice board.

"We are actually building a total of ten beds, expanding our existing building of 10,000 square feet by another 16,000 square feet and being able to accommodate more Sudburians and northerners. So, today's investment is very much an investment to the future of caring and helping people." said Lougheed.

Sam Khoury is the CTV-Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon Chair in Sudbury.

"The telethon is based on giving gifts and assisting the kids in the area. And the kids at the hospice, when they come here, they need help and assistance too, and that's what we’re doing." said Khoury.

Hospice officials say they hope shovels will be in the ground within the next six to eight weeks.
