Sudbury firefighters rescue six puppies, two dogs from kitchen fire
Firefighters in Greater Sudbury say no one was injured and several dogs were rescued from a fire in a Paris Street apartment building Sudbury morning.
Around 2:30 a.m., crews from stations downtown, Long Lake, Minnow Lake along with the platoon chief responded to reports that smoke was coming from a basement apartment on Paris Street.
"Ladder 1 arrived first on scene and confirmed there was smoke coming from the building," the Sudbury Professional Firefighters Association said in a Facebook post Monday.
"Crews identified the unit the smoke was coming from and forced the door to gain entry. They experienced dense smoke and no visibility in the unit as they searched for the fire. They located the fire in the kitchen area and began extinguishment. "

After extinguishing the fire, crews searched the unit because they received a report that there were dogs trapped inside.
"They located two adult dogs and six puppies, who were pulled out of the unit," the post said. "Firefighters from Engine 2 provided care to the dogs using our pet oxygen device."
"The dogs were then returned to their owner. A thorough search was completed on the remainder of the units and cleared of victims. The building was then ventilated and checked for fire extension."
The unit suffered smoke and fire damage, the post said.
