A long-time Sudbury cadet received a big honour Tuesday night.

Chief Warrant Officer Markus Valtonen, a member of the 2912 Sudbury Irish Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps has been named ‘Canada's Most Outstanding Army Cadet.’

He is the recipient of the 2018 General Walsh Commemorative Sword, which is the highest national prize for any army cadet, and comes with the opportunity to represent cadets from across the country on November 11th.

“This will be the first time that I head down to Ottawa for the Remembrance Day ceremony. And not only to be at it, by spectating the actual event, I’ll be able to participate by laying a wreath and that is a very special experience that I’m very excited for.” said Valtonen.

He will also have an opportunity to meet the Governor General and the Chief of the Defence Staff following the ceremony at Rideau Hall.
