The effectiveness of anti-depressant drugs is something that has long been debated, but new, wide-ranging research has found they do work.

An international study looked at results from more than 500 trials of commonly-used anti-depressants in 120-thousand patients.

It found some drugs were more effective than others, but all were more effective than placebos or dummy pills.

The World Health Organization estimates some 300-million people suffer from depression.
