SUDBURY -- A threat emailed to Sudbury Secondary School on Monday morning closed Sudbury Secondary for a couple of hours.
'The school initiated its protocols and students and staff were safely evacuated," Greater Sudbury Police said in a news release Monday. "Officers arrived on scene in order to determine the credibility and validity of the potential threat."
Police deemed the school safe after sweeping the area "and did not locate anything suspicious," the release said.
"Shortly after 10:15 a.m., students and staff were permitted to re-enter the school as it was determined that the threat to the school was not credible. The Greater Sudbury Police Service and Rainbow District School Board take these matters very seriously."
Police are now trying to determine the origin of the threat.
"We would like to thank the staff and students of Sudbury Secondary School for their cooperation and patience during the investigation," the release said.

On Twitter, Greater Sudbury Police said they received a call from the school at 8:05 a.m. "regarding a potential threat."
"The school initiated its protocols," the tweet said. "Students and staff safely evacuated. Officers on scene to determine the credibility and validity of the potential threat. Investigation is ongoing."
