A 35-year-old man is facing several charges following a traffic stop in Mattawa earlier this month.

On Nov. 11 shortly before 11 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol when officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on John Street, police said in a news release.

Police initiated a traffic stop and an officer spoke with the driver.

As a result of an investigation, the 35-year-old driver from Papineau-Cameron Township was charged with identity fraud (personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice,) two counts of driving while under suspension, driving a vehicle without a permit, driving without proper headlights, failing to comply with a release order and speeding.

The accused was held for bail.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
