The Cardinal Lodge at Mattawa River Resort recently held a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for local flood victims.
Resort owner Nicole Grigorov says the event raised $2,280 and will be divided evenly between the evacuees and their families. She says she wanted to help the people who have lost everything and that a bunch of people pitched in to help.
The Town of Mattawa declared a State of Emergency back on May 6, 2019 due to rising high water levels from the Otto Holden Dam and many residents had to be evacuated.
Town officials cancelled the State of Emergency on June 3.
A flood assistance information meeting is scheduled to take place on June 13 at 6:30 pm at the Mattawa Council Chambers. Staff from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing will give a presentation on the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program, including information on eligibility, documentation required, and how to apply. Officials will be on hand to answer questions.
They will also be available at the municipal office council chambers at 160 Water Street on Friday, June 14 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
