Police in North Bay have seized almost $50,000 in drugs and cash, along with two handguns, and charged two people from the Greater Toronto Area with numerous offences.

The pair, ages 27 and 29, were arrested at a hotel on Main Street West on Tuesday afternoon following a lengthy investigation by the street crime unit.

Police began their investigation this spring after learning that an unknown man was selling drugs in the city. An investigation uncovered that the 29-year-old suspect from Toronto was behind the drug dealing.

Police executed a search warrant on the hotel and arrested the Toronto man, along with the 27-year-old from Brampton.

“The two accused males were located inside the hotel room and were taken into police custody,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

Both men were charged with multiple trafficking offences, possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000 and weapons offences.

Items seized include 250.8 grams of cocaine, 43.2 grams of fentanyl, $8,600 in cash and two loaded 9mm handguns.

“The total value of the cash and drugs seized is approximately $48,800,” the release said.

The two accused are being held in custody for a bail hearing.
