Skating path a go in Timmins, but no volunteer-run warming centre

Share

As winter weather begins to take hold in Timmins, city officials say there will be an ice path through Hollinger Park for skating. However, its partnership with the Timmins Community Park Association has changed.

Over the past few years, the Timmins Community Park Association volunteered to operate a trailer where people could change in and out of their skates and warm up if they were cold.

But the president of the association said, "with current situations, we cannot guarantee the security of our trailer and its contents as we have experienced issues of vandalism in the past few years."

Mark Rogers also said the Association "cannot guarantee the safety of users and our volunteers."

The organization has decided to take "a break to reevaluate" how it will function in the future.

Rogers told CTV News he was unavailable to conduct an interview.
