Due to a low pressure system tracking over parts of northeastern Ontario, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the following areas:

  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
  • Espanola - Killarney
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity
  • Manitoulin Island
  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
  • West Nipissing - French River

Significant rainfall is expected to begin Wednesday night, continuing through Thursday, before tapering off into scattered showers on Friday.

Total rainfall is expected to be between 20 - 40 millimetres for the above communities, except Manitoulin Island, where 30 -50 mm is expected.

Because the ground is already near saturation, the ability to absorb further rainfall is diminished and could result in localized flooding in low-lying areas.

For more information about flooding in your area, residents are encouraged to consult their local conservation authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry district office.
