THURSDAY MORNING ASSAULT
Less than 12 hours later, an assault happened at another apartment building across the street from the Randolph Centre on the corner of Cedar Street and Brian McKee Lane resulting in a 49-year-old man sustaining serious injuries, police said.
"The man sustained critical injuries as the result of an assault that took place inside of a residential unit," police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn told CTV News in an interview.
"At this time it has not been determined what was used in order to injure the man however he is in critical condition and remains in hospital."
The injured victim was located a block away on Larch Street by a passerby Thursday morning before 7:45 a.m.
Officers had blocked off Larch Street between Paris Street and Brady Street as they continued their investigation.
A small area at the corner of Larch Street and Brian McKee Lane, next to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, had been cordoned off. What appears to be a wheeled walker and blanket were seen inside the taped-off area.

Through the investigation, police said they determined that the original incident occurred inside a residential unit on Cedar Street at Brian McKee Lane.
“Just after 8:30 a.m., to check on the well-being and ensure the safety of individuals inside the unit, our Emergency Response Unit (ERU) made entry into the residence and located five individuals,” said police in a news release Friday afternoon.
“All five individuals were taken into police custody without incident.”

Two more people were found hiding as the canine and emergency response units continued to clear the building.
“While clearing the unit where the five individuals were located, officers found numerous weapons including a rifle, pellet guns and multiple knives,” said police.
Based on the investigation, three of the individuals taken into custody were released. The other four individuals, men ranging in age from 41 to 58-years-old, have been charged with attempted murder in relation to the incident.
The four individuals remain in police custody and are scheduled to attend bail court Friday to answer to the charges.
“Their names cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process,” said police.
Police said they believe the assault was a target incident as the parties involved are believed to be know to each other.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to call GSPS at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
The investigation is continuing and CTV News will continue to follow both incidents.
Two weeks ago, an 89-year-old man with a walker told CTV News he will avoid the downtown area after he was robbed of $800 in broad daylight right after cashing his wife's pension cheque.
