SUDBURY -- The Porcupine Health Unit has recorded its seventh death from COVID-19 after a Timmins woman in her 70s was admitted to hospital and later died due to complications related to the virus.

The woman tested positive for COVID-19 on April 21.

Public health officials say this case was related to the outbreak at the Timmins and District Hospital (TADH), which was declared over as of May 11.

"We would like to share our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of this individual, our thoughts remain with those affected," said Blaise MacNeil, President and CEO of the TADH said in a news release Sunday afternoon.

TADH is operating with visitor restrictions in place to ensure the safety of all patients and staff.

No further information will be shared out of respect for the family.
