SUDBURY -- A Sudbury man who has been found guilty of promoting hate against a marginalized group will have to wait a little bit longer for his sentencing hearing.
David Popescu, 70, was scheduled to appear in court Friday for sentencing submissions, following a guilty ruling in late September.
However, due to a delay surrounding other court matters, Popescu’s hearing was adjourned. It is now scheduled for Jan. 15.
Popescu was charged following hateful rhetoric spread against former Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne during the provincial campaign of 2018.
Popescu is a perennial fringe candidate in local elections, running municipally, provincially and federally, using open debates to promote his brand of radical Christianity.
In addition to his hateful comments about marginalized groups, Popescu was convicted in 2006 for assaulting his mother during an argument.
