Local politicians and members of the community are celebrating the official opening of Science North's permanent THINK Hub in Sault Ste. Marie.

This comes after a $1-million Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation funding announcement last May. It is one of six northern Ontario THINK Hubs custom-made by Sudbury’s Science North to create jobs and drive tourism.

The THINK Project allows visitors of all ages to engage with new exhibits, programs, and experiences related to Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering (STEM).

Exhibits will focus on STEM fields

Officials with Science North said the THINK Project will also create inclusive spaces for groups underrepresented in STEM fields such as women and Indigenous peoples.

This initiative is the first major project undertaken by Science North as part of its Strategic Plan for 2018-2023, which focuses on bringing new and innovative experiences to science centres in Sudbury and across northern Ontario.

CTV Northern Ontario's Nicole Di Donato is attending the launch and will have a full report on air and online.
