Sault suspect accused of choking assault found with crystal meth

A 34-year-old suspect has been charged after a victim of an assault made their way to police headquarters in the Sault to ask for help.

The incident took place around 6 p.m. on Nov. 22 when the victim reported the attack to police.

“They told police the suspect, who is known to them, ran away on Second Line East,” Sault police said in a news release Friday.

“Officers were dispatched and located the accused nearby. When police advised the accused, they were under arrest, they continued attempting to run away and resist arrest. Officers were able to gain physical control of the accused and they were arrested.”

Police searched them after the arrest and found five grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

Charges include choking, assault, resisting police, drug possession and failing to comply with an undertaking.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
