Sault shooting investigation underway

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) is actively investigating a shooting that took place overnight.

Around midnight, 911 operators received multiple reports of “possible gunfire” at a home in the 100 block of Wemyss Street, said police in a news release.

“Officers found two victims with injuries from gunshot wounds,” said SSMPS officials.

“Both were taken to hospital. One victim with life-threatening injuries, the other with serious injuries.”

As of 9:30 a.m., officers remain at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

“During the early stages of the investigation the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident,” said police.

SSMPS is asking anyone with information related to the incident or video of the area at the time of the shooting to contact Detective Sgt. Alison Campbell at 705-949-6300 ext. 288 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
