Sault resident celebrates $100,000 Encore win
A Sault man won $100,000 in a Lotto Max draw last month.
Carlo Vernelli, who has been playing the lottery for more than 20 years, matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Sept. 23 draw.
Vernelli said he always says yes to Encore.
"I was at the store when I checked my ticket using the ticket checker and saw the big winner screen," he is quoted as saying in a news release from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
"I thought, 'Does that say $100,000?' and must have scanned it four or five more times.”
Vernelli said when he told his wife she didn't believe him, so he brought her back to the store so she could see for herself.
"My family is so happy for me," he said.
He said he hasn't made any decisions for his win yet.
"I will tuck it in the bank and process this whole journey before making any decisions," he said.
He purchased his winning ticket at the Mac's on Boundary Road in Sault Ste. Marie.
