Sault police clear scene after reports of man carrying a firearm

Update:

Sault Ste. Marie police officers are no longer on scene in the area of Chapple Avenue and Albion Street. This following a search after receiving reports of a man in the area with a rifle.

Officers with Patrol Services, Investigation Services, the Emergency Services Unit and the Canine Unit were on scene around the dinner hour Thursday. Police say a lengthy search and canine track did not locate anyone matching the description of the person from the initial report. At this time, no firearms have been located.

One man is in custody, however he was wanted in connection with an unrelated matter.

 

Officers continue to investigate this incident and police urge anyone with information to contact Sault Ste. Marie Police.

Sault Ste. Marie police are asking residents in the area of Chapple Avenue and Albion Street to shelter in place as they investigate reports of someone with a firearm.

"Anyone who lives in the area is urged to shelter in place," police said Thursday afternoon.

"If you’re able to, please go to your basement and avoid windows and doors."

All other citizens are urged to avoid the area. Further details will be released as they become available.
