Steven Jones, the accused in a stabbing death of a 22-year-old woman in Sault Ste. Marie, had a scheduled court appearance Thursday.

A photo of the 22-year-old homicide victim, Taylor Marshall, uploaded to her social media account May 8/23. (Facebook) Jones is charged with the murder of 22-year-old Taylor Marshall and the attempted murder of a man on Sault Ste. Marie’s boardwalk. Marshall was found dead in her apartment on John Street.

Both incidents took place Sept. 7 in the city.

Police are unsure what time Marshall was killed, but they said at the time that both Marshall’s death and a second stabbing victim “were random acts of violence.”

Lawyer Rebecca Silver, appearing on Jones’ behalf, told the court the defence is still receiving disclosure from the Crown on the case.

“We’re reviewing first wave of disclosure,” Silver said.

She was granted a Dec. 14 date for his next court appearance while they continue to receive and review disclosure.

Jones was not in court during the virtual hearing Tuesday.

None of the allegations against Jones has been proven in court.

Correction

A previous version of this article indicated that the victim Taylor Marshall was killed on the boardwalker rather than in her apartment.
