SUDBURY -- It has been just over four months since Greater Sudbury Transit became GOVA, and transit officials say the community response has been mostly positive.

But one rider we talked to is not happy with the changes.

93-year-old Marie Koncan says walking is her main mode of transportation.

"Weather permits. I love to walk, but when it's icy or too hot in July, I take the bus," said Koncan.

Living downtown and having a doctor in Lively, means she needs to take the bus for her yearly checkup.

Since GOVA was introduced in August, the stop outside her doctor's office was eliminated, something Koncan didn’t know about until she was on her way there on the bus.

"The doctor came in and I said to her 'I don’t know how I’m going to get home,' and she said 'we’ll give you a taxi,'" said Koncan.

Koncan says she's not the only one affected by the stop change, other patients have been missing it as well.

"I said to the bus driver, 'don’t fix what’s not broken," said Koncan.

Although Koncan had a negative experience, city transit officials say the response from most riders has been positive.

Bruno Lafortune is the transit manager for the City of Greater Sudbury.

"A couple enhancements that we’ve had: 90-minute transfers, we have our main line, and I think overall the on-time performances have been improved. So, again that's a plus for the citizens of Sudbury. On Sunday alone, we’ve noticed a 40 per cent ridership increase. An overall percentage for the GOVA has been 7 per cent ridership increase," said Lafortune.

Still, Lafortune says he wants to hear both the good and the bad reviews.

"We’re grabbing all of the feedback from the public. We're looking at some of the routes that potentially aren’t working, the routes that are working well. So, we're looking at all that and making new changes possibly early in the New Year," said Lafortune.

Lafortune says one of the routes being reviewed by staff is the one in Lively that Koncan is concerned with.

He says it's important for the public to understand that changes can’t be done overnight. The process usually takes several months to put into effect.
