Big news out of Sudbury announced Thursday evening.
Soccer players in Sudbury have been calling for an indoor facility, but now they're getting much more.
The provincial government is committing $4-million to fund a not-for-profit sports facility.
Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault made the announcement in front of a huge crowd at Lasalle Secondary School, where the new sports complex is planned to be built.
"The facility will be called the Fabio Belli Multi-Sports Complex. It's not just a bubble. We're talking about a lot of opportunities here. We're looking at making sure there's tracks inside, so seniors can do laps in there in the winter. We've got the ultimate frisbee group that's going to be involved in this. It's not just for soccer." said Thibeault.
Named after late city councillor Fabio Belli, the new facility will be available for indoor soccer and many other sports and activities all year-round.
"Unfortunately, when he passed away, nothing had really been accomplished yet. I'm so happy to see that things are starting to move." said Susan, Fabio Belli's widow.
Thibeault says construction should begin next spring.
