A convoy of over 100 trucks is on its way to Ottawa travelling from Red Deer, Alberta to unite Canadians against the government.

It is called ‘United We Roll! Convoy For Canada!’ and its pro-pipeline members are embarking on a cross-country journey to create awareness for the oil and gas industry, and show politicians that people want change.

The group is concerned about Bill C48 - Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, Bill C69 - enacting the Impact Assessment Act, the current format of the carbon tax, as well as the impact of the United Nations migration pact on Canadian borders.  They want the bills and the carbon tax removed by politicians.

Jason Corbeil is one of the organizers of the initiative.

He tells CTV News that the group has seen a lot of support in the last four days and that they have a core of 75-80 drivers that have committed to the effort from start to finish.  Many others have joined for short periods of time.

A convoy of about 160 left Red Deer on February 14th and is expected to arrive on Parliament Hill on Tuesday, February 19.

The group left Sault Ste. Marie around 8 am Monday, February 18 and will be making stops in Iron Bridge and Blind River before making their way to Sudbury.

Because of its size, United We Roll is not going directly into the cities.

The Sudbury rally will be held Monday at Petro Canada just off of Highway 17, where another 50 trucks are expected to join.

An online fundraising effort has generated $117,685 of a $250,000 goal by over 1,200 people in one month.  The money is going towards supplies, gas, and accommodations for the convoy’s participants.

United We Roll has a closed Facebook group with over 8,600 members.

Corbeil says the movement is open to everyone and that some members have stronger views than others.

When asked if the group’s message included anti-immigrant sentiment, the organizer responded that there are many immigrants who have joined their convoy and he would ask people to be more open-minded. Corbeil says many feel that the government has a hard time taking care of Canadians, and that they should be first priority.

CTV Northern Ontario will be at Monday’s rally in Sudbury and will have more information following.
