Port Dover man charged in connection with deadly crash that killed Sudbury motorcyclist

A 50-year-old man has been charged following a five-vehicle crash near Port Dover, Ont., on Sept. 14, that left a Greater Sudbury woman dead and sent two others to hospital.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP,) the collision, which occurred near the intersection of Blueline Road and Highway 6 and involved three motorcycles, a pickup truck and an SUV.

A 31-year-old Sudbury woman, who was on one of the motorcycles, was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver of one of the other bikes was also seriously injured and another biker had more minor injuries.

OPP allege that following the collision, the accused stabbed a bystander with a knife resulting in “serious injuries.” The victim was transported to hospital.

The Port Dover local is charged with attempted murder, dangerous driving, dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm along with a weapon possession charge.

The accused remains in police custody after refusing to participate in court proceedings in on Tuesday and a virtual bail hearing on Friday.

None of the accusations have been proven in court.

On Friday, the Crown rescinded a publication ban that covered the identity of the Sudbury victim, Tiffany Barrer.
