Police say speeding driver on Hwy. 17 in Sudbury was impaired
A 33-year-old from Greater Sudbury has been charged following an incident on Highway 17 last week.
Just before midnight May 4, Ontario Provincial Police were conducting traffic enforcement on the highway when they spotted the suspect’s vehicle.
“A vehicle was stopped for traveling over 125 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone,” police said in a news release Tuesday.
“The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the Sudbury OPP detachment for further testing.”
Charges include impaired driving, speeding and failing to surrender their licence.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 5 in Sudbury.
The suspect's driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
“The OPP would like to remind the public that if you see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways, or trails, please make the call and dial 911,” police said.
“Impaired driving never ends well. Please plan a way to get home safely.”
