TIMMINS – Timmins Police Services continue to investigate what they say is an act of violence.

A call about gunfire came in around 4:50 p.m. yesterday.

Police say the emergency response team responded to the intersection of 6th Avenue and Spruce Street North and contained a scene stretching to Fifth Avenue, Tamarack Street and Pine Street North.

They say a search of the area turned up some physical evidence indicating that a firearm was involved but they won't reveal any specific descriptions at this time.

They've received some information from witnesses about a possible suspect or suspects, but they're appealing to the public for more details.

Police are also reviewing surveillance footage from cameras in the vicinity and they're asking other property owners to submit their footage if they have any,

They also don't know if there are any victims. They say there was no [physical evidence of that and no reports have come in from the hospital.

They believe this to be an isolated incident and say there's no cause for greater public concern.

Police have released the scene.

The Emergency Response Team has been deployed in the area to perform a thorough search for any suspects or evidence related to this occurrence. Officials say local residents should not be alarmed by the presence of officers in full tactical gear in the affected area for the next few hours.

At present, no person has been identified or located as having been injured in relation to this event.

A strong police presence has been deployed and a perimeter may be set up to restrict access to this area as a precautionary measure.
