Two people have been charged with multiple offences after police in West Nipissing noticed a passenger in a vehicle not wearing a seatbelt.

It quickly emerged the driver’s licence was suspended and the passenger, who is from Sudbury, was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Ontario Provincial Police stopped the vehicle at 2:30 a.m. July 23 on Front Street in West Nipissing.

“As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested for being a suspended driver and the passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

“A search located Canadian currency and drugs suspected to be methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs.”

A 55-year-old from West Nipissing is charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, three counts of drug trafficking, driving with cannabis in open baggage and driving while suspended.

A 40-year-old from Sudbury is charged with failing to comply with a probation order, three counts of drug trafficking and failing to wear a seatbelt.

Both accused were held for bail court and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday in North Bay.
