Police find human remains in remote northern Ont. hamlet
Shortly after 9 a.m. on May 3, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) found human remains in a wooded area near Katrine, Ont.
Katrine is a northern Ontario community located just under 100km south of North Bay off of Highway 11 near Doe Lake.
“The identity of the deceased has yet to be confirmed,” said police in a news release late Friday evening.
The investigation into the death is ongoing with various OPP units assisting along with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
“The investigators are working to determine the identity of the deceased and circumstances surrounding the death,” said police in a social media post.
OPP said it will release more information when it becomes available.
“Police believe there is no threat to public safety,” read the news release.
