Plate reader alert results in traffic stop, arrest in northern Ont.: OPP
Officers with North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle in Callander after receiving a notification from their automated licence plate reader last month.
The Powassan OPP detachment conducted the traffic stop on Highway 654 on Sept. 28 when they received the alert from a red pickup truck, provincial police said in a social media post.
“Through further investigation, a 30-year-old driver of Callander has been charged with offences under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The accused was charged with driving while under suspension, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating an unsafe vehicle, failing to notify of a change of address and for not having a muffler.
None of the accusations has been proven in court.

“OPP patrol vehicles are equipped with ALPR (Automatic Licence Plate Reader) technology,” said police.
“ALPR is an effective way to increase the efficiency of discovering and conducting investigations related to both traffic and criminal offences.”
“Drive safe,” added OPP Const. Renée Taylor.
