Hundreds of people in Chapleau are without home phone services and could be for the next few days.

The disruption also includes 9-1-1 emergency calls for about 500 people in the town, about two and a half hours west of Timmins.

Officials say a garage fire spread to nearby phone lines causing significant damage.

Repair work could take up to three days.

Mayor Michael Levesque tells us there has been some restoration of service already, and Bell crews are working on it.

He says the town is staffing a phone line around the clock for anyone who needs assistance.
