Ontario Northland in North Bay continues to seek new employees, 60 skilled labourers to be exact, and on Monday the company was outside of its home base to see if people in Sudbury are qualified to land a job.
With resume in-hand and several months removed from his college graduation, Todd Pidgeon is looking for work.
He hopes to be one new hires Ontario Northland in search of.
"That made me optimistic that there might be a position for me,” he said.
The re-manufacturing and repair division at Ontario Northland is looking for about 40 production workers; as well as electricians, metal fabricators and other skilled workers.
Ontario Northland manager Mark Roelcke said there's a reason why the company is looking for people outside of North Bay.
"We recognize they (Sudbury) have a large construction and mining industry, so we are looking for individuals with a diverse background,” Roelcke explained.
Most people CTV spoke with said they wouldn't mind the commute from Sudbury or relocating, because the pay is good and the hours are full-time.
"Better money and better opportunities for a bigger company,” said Jason Vaillancourt, a Pembroke resident.
Jeremy Gaudette is a skilled-trade worker in Sudbury.
He said he's aware of Ontario Northland’s cuts in the past, but he feels that's the way the business works.
He doesn't mind moving and he's confident in his skill-set.
"I’m in the skilled trades, there are always jobs out there,” said Gaudette.
“Let's say five years from now something like that does happen, I'm not in a panic thinking ‘okay I’ve got to go back to school.’ I have trades under my belt.”
The third and final job fair will be in Timmins on Tuesday. Successful candidates will be put on a short-list and interviews will be happening next week.
