An elementary school in Greater Sudbury hosted an early Canada day celebration on Thursday

Valley View Public School in Val Caron is among 150 nation-wide schools to receive a 150th ‘Happy Birthday Canada’ celebration garden.

It was planted last fall. Community members, parents and others joined students and staff, as they enjoyed 1,000 red and white tulips in full bloom the school yard.

“It means that from now on we're going to be connected with all the communities in Canada,” said Chantal Lacroix, Valley View Public School principal.

“It’s also a way to show our pride and celebrate the best nation - our Canada nation - and be proud of who we are."

The program was courtesy of the Canadian Garden Council.
