Northwestern Ont. suspect on probation charged with aggravated sexual assault

A sexual assault victim was seriously injured and numerous police officers were attacked in an incident last weekend in northwestern Ontario.
Ontario Provincial Police in Dryden were called at 7:30 a.m. on May 11 to respond to a report of an assault.
“Officers and EMS located one individual with serious injuries,” the OPP said in a news release Tuesday.
“The individual was transported to local hospital to be treated for their injuries. The suspect was not present when officers arrived on scene.”
The 19-year-old suspect was found a short time later but became violent once placed under arrest.
“During the arrest and lodging, the individual became combative towards officers,” police said.
“Officers sustained minor injuries.”
Charges include aggravated sexual assault, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, violating probation and five counts of assaulting police.
The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora at a later date.
