Northern Ont. woman charged in fatal head-on Highway 17 crash
A 32-year-old northern Ontario woman has been charged in a head-on collision on Highway 17 near Espanola that killed one and seriously injured two others Sunday.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. May 5 in Nairn-Hyman Township, about 52 kilometres west of Sudbury, when an eastbound vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.
A 73-year-old American from Wisconsin was pronounced dead at the scene and two other people were taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.
The accused, from Warren, is charged with impaired and dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm.
She was the only person in her vehicle at the time of the crash, OPP Const. Jessica Gilbertson told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email.
The highway was closed for about eight hours following the crash.

"The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP traffic incident management enforcement team," OPP said.
"Further information will be released as it becomes available.
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in bail court Monday.
