Northern Ont. suspect charged with entering victim’s home, sexually assaulting them

A 23-year-old in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged after a victim was sexually assaulted by a casual acquaintance.

Sault police received a 911 call July 7 around 8:40 p.m. about a sexual assault in the Steelton area, police said in a news release Monday.

“Upon arrival, officers located the accused and placed them under investigative detention,” police said.

“An investigation revealed the accused had entered the victim’s residence unannounced and sexually assaulted them. The accused was arrested. The accused and the victim have had minimal contact before.”

Charges include sexual assault and unlawfully being in a dwelling house.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
