Northern Ont. man charged with refusal after leaving local bar
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested an Elliot Lake man for refusing to provide a breath sample after leaving a local bar last week.
On April 11 at about 11 p.m., members of East Algoma OPP were on general patrol when they stopped a vehicle to check the driver’s sobriety after he left a bar on Philip Walk.
“Police stopped the white pick-up truck and spoke to the driver,” said OPP officials in a news release.
“The driver was provided plenty of opportunity to provide a sample of breath but refused to do so.”
Officers subsequently arrested the uncooperative driver and the pickup truck involved was impounded by police.
As a result of the investigation and the initial traffic stop, the 70-year-old local driver was charged with failing or refusing to comply with demand.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on June 13.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Police advised the public to report suspected impaired drivers.
“The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” said police.
“Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.”

Some birds may use 'mental time travel,' study finds
Real quick — what did you have for lunch yesterday? Were you with anyone? Where were you? Can you picture the scene? The ability to remember things that happened to you in the past, especially to go back and recall little incidental details, is a hallmark of what psychologists call episodic memory — and new research indicates that it’s an ability humans may share with birds called Eurasian jays.
