Northern Ont. group fined $8,500 for moose hunt violations
Four hunters from Ear Falls west of Thunder Bay, Ont., have been fined for an illegal moose hunt in October 2022 and two of them lost their hunting licence for multiple years.
The court heard that on Oct. 17, 2022, Gerald Woolsey and Cameron Woolsey were hunting for a bull moose along the English River, west of Ear Falls.
"Neither were licensed to hunt for bull moose," the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry said in a news release Friday.
"After Gerald Woolsey killed a bull moose, Steven Woolsey unlawfully affixed his bull moose tag to this moose. Robinson assisted with the retrieval of this illegally killed moose. This is the third significant wildlife conviction for Gerald Woolsey and the second for Cameron Woolsey."
Justice of the Peace Daphne Armstrong heard the case remotely in the Ontario Court of Justice, Red Lake, on June 26 of this year.
Gerald Woolsey of Ear Falls pleaded guilty to hunting a bull moose without a licence. He was fined $3,000 and received a seven-year hunting licence suspension.
Cameron Woolsey of Ear Falls pleaded guilty to hunting a bull moose without a licence. He was fined $3,500 and received a three-year hunting licence suspension.
Steven Woolsey of Balmertown pleaded guilty to unlawfully invalidating his bull moose tag and was fined $1,000.
