North Bay warming centre temporarily closed, closing for the season at end of month
North Bay’s daytime warming centre on Fraser Street remains temporarily closed due to an “unforeseen maintenance issue,” the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) said in a news release Tuesday.

DNSSAB officials had initially expected the centre to reopen Tuesday.
On Friday DNSSAB announced that the centre would close for the season on March 31.
“With above average daytime temperatures predicted for the region through to May, the warming centre located at 579 Fraser Street will close on March 31,” officials said.
The centre has operated from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily since November to provide access to bathrooms and showers, laundry, food and shelter to keep the city’s vulnerable individuals out of the elements and the cold. The centre also provides individuals with referrals to other services available in the region.
As of Friday, 282 individuals had attended the warming centre this season.
“Special thanks go to The Gathering Place and their staff for stepping in to operate the warming centre this year and helping so many people get out of the cold,” said DNSSAB char Mark King in a previous news release.
Officials said they are planning to have warning services available again starting on Nov. 1 – a site for next season’s warming centre has yet to be determined.
