SUDBURY -- North Bay police say two local people have been charged after discovering suspected narcotics during a traffic stop.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, officers stopped a vehicle on Second Avenue, police said in a news release Wednesday.
The driver of a vehicle, a 38-year-old man, was known to the officer to be suspended from driving privileges.
"A suspended driver can be arrested under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act - an unlicensed driver cannot be arrested," said John Schultz, community safety coordinator for North Bay Police Service.
Schultz said during the interaction with the accused man, suspected drugs were identified and seized leading to the arrest of both people in the vehicle, including a 48-year-old female passenger.
During the search, police say they found:
- Approximately 80 grams of suspected cocaine
- Approximately 1.8 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- $1,840 dollars of Canadian currency
- A set of digital scales
Schultz said the estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $14,000.
Both of the accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 20.
